As a member of the #2 (eric) masters team, I was bound and determined to do my part to kick some butt, especially since I expected Karl Watanabe to run 2:50 and Carl Jess to run 3:10....but I didn't; I hope one of the other team members picked up the slack....

Chip time: 3:26:08, pretty even half splits, no injuries, no major chafing issues...

I was actually not disappointed with my time, mainly because I didn't walk a step. I have two goals when I run a marathon. The first is to have fun. The second is to not walk, regardless of how slow my pace may get. I did both and actually picked it up after the hills and passed tons of people. I never felt like stopping or quitting, but sure had a tough time tucking in behind people to let them act as a windbreak. The two minutes to the start and the 9:00 first mile made it obvious that I was not running record pace. I had five miles that were over 8 minute pace and the rest were all under 8s, including the downhills of the last 5.2 miles. The hills were OK, probably because of my conservative pace early. The finish area was horrible, especially because it took forever to get to the bus with my clothes. The post race food was embarassing. It was nice to see some of the Deads at Angelo's. The waiter pushed us out so fast, I never did say hi to many more people than Carl and Karl and Dennis ( I saw him at the staging area too). The food we had hit my stomach like a rock. Walking down stairs is a bit of a challenge today. It was a nice weekend away from the real world, but after 11 Bostons, I am not so sure I want to run there with 18,000 people again too soon. Now it's back to triathalon training and getting ready to see Coach George at Grandma's.

btw, the MSU Basketball Team equipment manager friend of mine, Dave Pruder, ran 2:52:29 after coming back from knee surgery... he was wearing his NCAA ring too...in three weekends he was there when they won the ncaa, his wife ha

d a baby the following Saturday and then Boston... i think boston ranks #3 and the ncaa ranked #2..... orn: none tonight, just a long walk with the dog to loosen the quads...
