The race on Monday was my first DNF. Like you, I knew I was in trouble early
on. I think I stopped to walk the first time at around mile 17 or so, then I
was shuffling. I stopped to walk at around mile 19 and started feeling some
strange things going on in my hamstrings and hips. So, I decided to stop at
the medical tent at mile 20 to see if they could loosen in up so I could
continue.
As soon as they started to work on my hamstrings, they cramped up really bad
and I felt very light headed. So, they would not let me continue, which was
probably a good thing. I ended up sitting at the medical tent at mile 20 for
the next two hours waiting for the bus ride to the finish. In that time I was
able to watch numerous runners come into the tent and unfortunately, 3 of them
were taken off in an ambulance.
I am somewhat dissapointed, but I am glad that I stopped when I did, I may have
really done some damage to myself had I continued. I know what you mean about
being cold. One minute I was hot and sweaty, then the sprinklers started
feeling cold and sitting in the medical tent, I was freezing, was able to put
on a space blanket and warm up.
