This one goes under the "It wasn't pretty" category. I came down with a
chest cold last Thursday but felt OK by Saturday so off I went to
Hopkinton via Boston this morning. It looked like good running weather
early, overcast and in the 50s, but the sun came out just as we
started. This warmed things up considerably but there was a nice cool
headwind, well a tailwind would have been nicer. A great day for
spectators and they were out in significant numbers.

Well I knew by about mile 2 that it wasn't my day, the first 16 went
down at a pokey 8 minutes each. Then the wheels fell off the bus in the
Newton hills, my lungs were not cooperating. So I just backed off &
took it easy the rest of the way, Boston wins this time. 3:43:11, ouch

All in all an excellent weekend, and especially cool watching the
Women's Olympic Marathon trials. Thanks to Joe and Julie for putting on
the brunch.

Neil in Ayer, MA who's thinking about Vermont City Marathon on Memorial
day and hoping to watch the Boston coverage on TV tonight. Heard the
women's finish was the closest ever!
