The Cliff
by Kristin B
I remember when we were coming here. We got here at 2:00. We set up. The name of the campground was Acadia National Park, in Maine. The group that came with me was Jessie, Samantha. My friend is Billy, my dad Jim and I'm Tex.
The next day we climbed a cliff. Jim went the easy way up, the stairs. The cliff had a stream running down it, and the sky was blue with a little breeze. Just as we were a mile up the cliff the sky got dark. It got very windy, and it started to drizzle, lightning, and thunder. We kept on climbing because we were almost at the top. Jessie had stopped because she saw a tunnel to shelter us. The tunnel was dark and scary looking so Billy stayed outside with Ross. We walked in a little and heard a cracking sound.
Then Ross yelled, "Get out!" We turned was pitch black. A boulder trapped us in. Back outside Billy and Ross fell, but the rope was hitched to the side of the cliff. Ross got scraped and Billy hurt his arm.
Inside Samantha was scared. There was no other way out. We had to push the boulder out. I told Billy and Ross to get some help. They climbed to the top of the cliff and found Jim in the lodge drinking coffee. He got up and we asked where we were. When he found out he called a patrol team. The other two and I were pushing against the boulder. Down below us was the team. They were professional at going fast down ropes and we were still stuck to the side of the cliff. Finally, the boulder gave loose and we were airborn.
Then I bounced in the air. Jessie got hurt slightly. Sam and I weren't hurt at all. The patrol team looked up and saw the boulder headed straight for them. They quickly got down. When the boulder was on the ground they came up and got us. The team brought the people who were hurt to the hospital. They came back and we packed up and left with everybody, and in my whole life we went there two more times. It was fun.
Lost in a Swamp
by Jenna B
"Wow! This plain is big!" said Dee for the tenth time. She was short with brown hair and blue eyes.
"Well I'm glad we are almost there," said another voice. This voice belonged to Kim. Kim was a tall, brown haired girl with blue eyes."
"Girls you had better fasten your seat belts, "called their Mother.
"We're there already!" called a shocked Dee. "That only took a few minutes!"
"We said it only takes 30 minutes. It is only a 15 minute drive from here to the Great Dismal Swamp," called Dad.
They rented a red car and two boats. It was decided that Kim and Dee would go in one boat. The parents would go in the other.
"Well this is it," cried Dee.
"You take the blue boat and we'll take the pink one," Kim said to their parents. Then she picked up the pink one with Dee's help.
"That's fine with us. You can follow us. Ok?" said Dad.
"Ok!" they answered.
"At least I get to do something cool on my birthday. It's finally April 18 ! Let's put the boat in the swamp!" cried Dee.
"Let's check first," said their mother. "Do you have your food, water, coat and life vests?"
"Yes," came everyone's reply.
"Ok. Put your boat in the water and follow us," said Dad.
After a few minutes Kim said "What big trees!" What Kim said was an under-statement. The trees were huge! There were also clumps of grass and trees growing on the water. "Kim go overthere. Dad, we're going over there for a minute ok?" yelled Dee.
Without waiting for an answer they went to that part of the water. "I hope you know where we are," said Kim a few minutes later. "I mean the rose bushes are lovely, but it isn't worth getting lost."
"Go this way no this way," yelled Dee getting them hopelessly lost.
"Look there's a path. Let's follow it," yelled Kim. They picked up the boat and followed the trail. "There are lots of twists and turns.
Look there's the end." Kim called out. The look of terror on her face was enough to scare anyone. "Let's have lunch in that clearing." The clearing was the size of a small yard. They ate tuna sandwiches. "I wish we had milk with this," she said while swatting a fly. "Look there's another trail. Let's follow it." They picked up the boat. Suddenly there was a crash. It was behind them.
Kim looked back. "It's a bear!" she whispered to Dee.
"Let's go past the berry bushes and if he's still following us. There are plenty of rocks." They passed the berry patch. They sighed with relief. It was only a bear that wanted some berries.
"Let's continue and see what's up ahead," said Kim in a tired voice. "This boat is heavy." They followed the trail and saw something familiar. It was a red car. They were safe.
"It's a good thing we didn't have to stay out any longer. We have no food left. Let's put the boat down." Dee declared. Down went the boat.
A familiar voice said, "Well we couldn't find the girls." It was their father!
"Mom, Dad we're over here!" they cried.
"Let's go home," said their mother.
"Yes, it has been a long day," they said together.
I'll Never Forget The Jungle
by Shelby B
"Hurry up," called Candice Keeghan, an African tourist from the African Jungles. As Anne Baker and Jane Mitchell unpacked their luggage (because they had to stay at the jungle because they each had to do a report about the jungle.) Anne had been working for a magazine company for 3 years. Jane had been an explorer for 2 years. Jane had to go to the bathroom, well that's what she said. So Candice showed her where it was. It was 10 minutes and Jane hadn't come back from the bathroom. So Candice and Anne went to see if she was at the bathroom, but she wasn't.
So they went to look for her. Jane didn't have to go to the bathroom at all, she just wanted to start exploring early. Jane was looking for something to do a report on. Just at that moment, Jane saw a black mamba, and then she realized she was standing in its circle. She took 5 slow steps back and ran as fast as she could. When she was about 10 yards away, she stopped running and caught her breath. Then Jane saw herself standing in a big open field. As she looked straight ahead, she saw a big black thing about 50 yards away, coming right at her. Then one second later she saw that it was a puma! She once again ran as fast as she could, but this time she screamed from the top of her lungs.
Candice and Anne heard Jane screaming, so they followed it. They had grew closer and closer.
After a while, Jane stopped screaming and realized she had lost the puma.
Finally they found Jane. It took about one hour to find her. First they asked her why she wasn't at the bathroom, then they asked why she was screaming. Jane said she wanted to start the exploring early. Then she told them that she ran into a black mamba, then got chased by a puma. Jane said she wanted to leave. Then Anne got so scared she wanted to leave too. They didn't want to sleep there that night.
But that night they ended up sleeping there, (not that they had a choice.) The next morning, Anne and Jane both left the village to go home to their families. Jane and Anne stayed with their jobs, but they never went back to any jungle ever again!
Terror on the High Seas!
by Adam C
The cruise ship just left Hawaii on Sept. 19, 1983. It was a bad night and it was very foggy and the captain couldn't see so it was hard to steer the ship. Three kids named Adam, Jeremy and Dan were on the back of the ship. Adam was cool and brave and Jeremy was non-athletic and a good drawer, and Dan was Adam's half-brother. He was brave but not as brave as Adam.
The captain hit something. It was an iceberg and the ship had a big hole in the front of it. Water was coming in fast. People were having trouble staying on the deck. Some people even fell off and hit their heads on the iceberg and died. Someone yelled, "Abandon Ship," so the kids got on a cigar boat and watched the boat go down with their parents on it!
They thought no one survived! They tried the motor but it didn't start. Then they saw sharks surronding them. They tried the motor again; it didn't start. They were in trouble. They were there for hours.
Just then a humpback whale came up for air and ended up giving them a ride away from the sharks. "Hopefully towards land, "said Dan. They saw land very faintly because they were far away. It was dawn when they fell asleep. They awoke to the breaking of waves. Adam found the boat's motor was broken.
Dan said, "We will never get to land now!!" So they drifted until Dan said, "Let's swim to land." So they did. The sheriff thought that everybody died on the cruise ship. Nobody thought that anybody survived. The sheriff found out that their parents were on the ship but survived. They were badly hurt. So they were rushed to the hospital when they were found. The parents had to be in the hospital a few months but they recovered. Everybody lived happily ever after.
Fun in the Sun

Last summer Marv, short for Marvin, invited me and one of my best friends Harry to sleep over his house. I liked the idea because it got so hot at night during this time of the year and he had central air (thank God.) At 6:30 I got a ride to Marv's house. Harry was already there so I kissed my mother goodbye and then she left. We ate dinner and played a lot of Sega before we even thought about going to bed. At 11:30 we hit the sack. We talked a lot through out the night, like how cool it would be if we had our own club. Harry said that we should build a treehouse. "But where?" I said.
Marv said he had tons of wood in his basement and his father didn't need it. "We can start tomorrow in my backyard," said Marv.
The next morning we ate some Cheerios and then got to work. We picked a good spot where there were three trees very close together. We worked for about seven hours and then decided to stop. We had a floor built and it looked great. We planned on having two floors to start out with. A few hours later my mother picked me up and brought me home.
A week passed................
The treehouse was built and everything was in it and it was totally safe so we decided to spend Tuesday night in the treehouse. On Tuesday we were all cluttered up in the treehouse just sitting around and talking. When we were getting ready to go to bed we moved to the 2nd floor and then went to sleep all except for Harry. He was just sort laying down. During the night a bad storm was overhead. All Harry heard was crack, bang, Boom. Some huge flashes of light soared through the sky. Then at that very instant Crack, lightning had struck the treehouse and it was now on fire. We didn't know what was going on but then he told us. We all panicked and screamed for help but nobody could here us so we decided to jump off the back of the treehouse, cling on to a tree and slide down from there.
We all made it to the ground safely but we had to put the fire out. We got the big hose and started spraying the treehouse while Marv was calling 911. The Fire Department got there in less than 2 minutes and put the fire out. They did a really good job.
We all slept at our own houses that night but in the morning we met back at Marv's house. We wanted to make another treehouse but better. It was done in less than 3 weeks so we decided to try spending another night in it one more time. Luckily for us it was nice. There was not a cloud in the sky. Now the treehouse is awesome and the best in town.
The Jungle
by Dirk D
"Oh, do we have to leave?" asked Dirk boarding the plane to leave and go home to New York. With him were two others. One's name was Charles Simeniou (or they call him Diesel). The other person was a girl named Pamela. She was very gentle and kind. She was also very smart. The last person was Dirk and he was very resourceful.
In the plane we saw a rather large island named Madagascar. One minute later Pamela noticed that the plane's engine stopped and so they all started to scream. Down, down went the plane and then it crashed.
"Where am I?" Dirk wondered as he looked around and saw nobody. Three seconds later Pamela popped out of a bush and said, " So you finally woke up? "
"Now that you're finally up we can get a move on," commanded Diesel.
"Now I think we should head that way, " suggested Dirk pointing to the north.
While they were walking, Diesel stopped Pamela and Dirk because he heard a noise in the bush. In about three seconds A... GREAT... BIG... TIGER! appeared dead in front of them. "Quick! RUN! RUN! " yelled Diesel while he was fighting the tiger with his bare hands.
"Look," said Pamela pointing to a small raft that Dirk told them about on the plane.
As Pamela stepped into the raft another even bigger tiger appeared and started charging Dirk. When the tiger was half way to Dirk, he picked up a stick. When the tiger came close, Dirk shoved the stick right into the beast's mouth and the beast was so surprised that it fell right over and Pamela (even being terrified of the beast) grabbed another stick and hit the tiger as hard as she could and the beast died. After all that happened they got on the raft and sailed away forever.
Terror on the Island
by Dan D
Dan and Adam were going to Puerto Rico for Dan's birthday. They were going with their uncle Joe. They were all real excited about going. When they got on the plane and the plane took off. Dan got sick, he hated riding on planes. About one and one-half hours later the plane was making weird noises and it was starting to go down into the middle of the ocean.
The plane crashed into the waves. Adam and Dan were the first people out of the plane and the only ones who survived the crash. They were exhausted, so they grabbed on to a piece of luggage that had fallen off during the crash. Then they swam to the closest island that they could see.
When they made it to shore they saw a big mountain that looked like a volcano and little people on top of it. They looked like Indians, and it looked as they were celebrating. "I wonder why?" Dan said. Then there was a big yell at the top and the Indians started running down the outside of the volcano. Dan and Adam started to run. Adam said, "Where are we going to go?" Dan answered, "In that cave, Adam look! There is a small hole in the rocks," so they went in it. Inside the cave was a long tunnel so they decided to follow it. When they were walking, they saw drawings and skulls. Finally they came to the end of the cave and they heard a big noise and saw the volcano. The volcano was erupting and they saw a little girl on the top. They must have left her there when they ran down the volcano. The lava was going to get her so they ran to the top of the volcano and got the girl. But they had to hurry because the lava was going to get them soon. They started to run and when they got to the bottom there were a lot of Indians waiting. They had smiles on their faces and they gave Dan and Adam food and water. Later a ship picked Adam and Dan up.
The first thing Dan said to his mom and dad was, "I did not have a very good birthday." But Dan's day got a lot better when his mom said his uncle Joe was safe and sound in the hospital.
Amusement Park Terrors

"Wow, look at that ferris wheel!" cried twelve year old Tracey.
"But Tracey you've seen it before. Remember, we were here last year," said Tracey's twin brother Sean.
"I know that silly, I was telling Shelby."
Shelby their cousin age eleven stood in awe. "This place is really cool." Shelby said in amazement.
"Yea we know," Sean said.
"Come on there is the roller coaster!" cried Tracey.
Later that evening . . . .
"What an awesome day," said Shelby as the three of them were leaving.
"I know we had such a good time, too bad we have to go," said Tracey.
As they were passing through the gates Sean suddenly remembered his hat. It was back at the picnic area. Sean ran as fast as he could, he knew if he didn't get back in a few minutes the gates would be locked and Sean would be trapped in the amusement park overnight. When Sean finally reached the picnic area his cap was gone he looked high and low but still no cap. "Where is it , someone must have taken it to the lost and found," Sean thought to himself.
"Looking for this big boy?"
Sean jumped "Who, who said that?" Sean said nervously.
"Me, scaredycat, who else!" There stood Tracey and Shelby, in Tracey's hand was a red and black cap.
"Where did you find it?"Sean asked.
"After we ate dinner and you went to throw the trash away, Shelby picked up your cap and put it in her back-pack." "How did you where I was?" Sean asked Tracey and Shelby.
"We figured you would go back to look for it." Shelby said.
As they were leaving Tracey spotted something moving a few feet away. Suddenly the thing started moving toward them, there was something shiny in his hand it was a knife! Tracey couldn't hold it in any longer. "Run!!" cried Tracey.
By that time Sean and Shelby saw the person to and they started running.
"Run!!"" cried Sean.
"Run to the house of mirrors!" cried Shelby.
They ran to the house of mirrors and behind a group of mirrors and waited. When the person with the knife entered the house of mirrors he could not find the kids.
Suddenly from behind a mirrors came a broken piece of glass and hit the person on the head. When the man woke up he was behind bars and Tracey, Shelby and Sean were known as the bravest kids in town.
Trapped in the Alaskan Wilderness
by Joshua G
Josh met Andy and MoMo at the airport. They were going on an expedition to Alaska. On the way there, the plane caught on fire. Luckily they got out of the plane before it exploded. They all landed in the Alaskan wilderness. They were walking a while when they saw a polar bear. The bear looked like it hadn't eaten for days. MoMo said, "Let's get out of here now!"
Josh, Andy and MoMo started to run. The bear almost caught them but they ran into a cave. The bear could not get in. Andy said, "Good thing this cave was here!" The bear was making a how big enough for him to get in. But with all his digging we had a new problem, the cave was going to collapse!
We tried to get out but the bear was blocking the way. MoMo was so scared he ran around in circles screaming, "We're all going to die!" Andy grabbed MoMo and went under the bear's legs. Josh ran too and just made it out on time. The cave fell on the bear and he was never seen again.
An airplane saw us and it landed and saved us. We got away with our lives but it was a different story for the polar bear!
Terror In The Woods
by Derrich H
"Shut Up! " screamed Mr. Smith to all of the rowdy children, including me. At the moment, I was drumming on the seat of the junkiest school bus you have ever seen. I was drumming to my favorite tape, "Who's Better, Who's Best." Hi. My name is Luke Terrence. I'm 12 and in the sixth grade. We were going on a class field trip to the Rocky Mountains in Colorado. I was sitting next to my only friend on the bus, Jim, but, don't get me wrong, I only have 1 friend on the bus because all of my other friends thought it would be stupid and all played hooky. Don't worry, they'll get caught. When we stopped, I got up, got my backpack and my cooler from under my seat and then filed into line. Unfortunately, I had been sitting behind one of the schools biggest jerks and he was in line right behind me, so he stepped on the heels of my new Airwalks, and everytime I stomped my heels back in, he stepped on them again. I pretended not to notice, and then when we got off the bus, I swung my heavy back pack up and hit him right in the nose.
"Aaaaggghhh!!!" he screamed as he winced in pain.
"Luke, Get Up Here!" Mr. Smith yelled. I reluctantly trudged up the line, muttering replies to all of the snickering children. As we started up the mountain, I sort of merged back. Pretty soon I was in the very back of the line with Jim and I had really cranked up my walkman as we both sang to "Won't Get Fooled Again." At around the 5th time around, we heard Mr. Smith Yell, "Pit Stop! "I suddenly realized I had to go really bad. I waited in the line that seemed to never end, went, and left. After that, Jim and I were the only ones left. When were about 3/4 of the way up, I decided to save my batteries, and it was now silent, except the occasional cough and things like that. Before we knew it, we were up top. We all quickly took a short breather (when you've just hiked up a mountain, a 15 minute break seems short.) Then we ate, (boy, food never tasted so good!) and started down. We hadn't gone too far we heard a ferocious roar behind us. I quickly turned around and screamed in unison with the rest of the class. "It's a bear!" A kid screamed.
"Duh!" another kid screamed. I could instantly tellwho it was, Drew. I quickly thought back to all of my camping trips I had ever taken , especially the boy scout ones and I remembered the Freeze Out (a freeze out is a camping trip in the dead of winter) and the leader telling us to sing loudly if we ever saw a bear, because they get frightened easily. So I shouted, "Sing!"
It was actually good that nobody knew what to sing, so we all sang whatever we wanted. It probably sounded even more terrible to an animal than it actually was, and believe me, it sounded bad enough to frighten the bear away, and we all cheered. We sat down and took a rest. We then started back down. When we were about 3/4ths down, we heard that same roar and, as if on cue, we all started to sing. Then we realized it wasn't working. In fact, it was coming even closer! Even though I knew it was a dumb thing to do, I shouted,"Run!" Since I was right about singing, everyone listened. The bear came after us! It then moved to the side, so it was right next to us! I saw that it was about to leap at us, so I shouted "Stop!!"
Everyone stopped at the perfect time, the bear missed, tumbled down the hill, surely dying. As we walked out into the parking lot, I looked into the parking lot that I had waited so long to get to, and I laughed at what I saw, the bear stopped rolling down the hill. It only stopped because of the bus, but, there it was, right in front of the bus door. Everybody but me jumped over it as we loaded onto the bus. But, being the person that I am, I kicked it in the head as hard as I could about fifteen times.
Getting Lost in the Jungle
by Sara H
On a hot summer day June 27, 1995, Shelby, Nicole and Heather and I were on a walk. Well halfway through our walk we noticed that we forgot our compass. We were lost in the jungle. We saw a trail to the left, so we went on the trail. We were really lost in the jungle. We stopped by a stream and took a drink. It was getting dark so we decided to set up our tent and look for some food. All we found were berries. We ate some and saved some for the night.
Then we made a camp fire with some matches and sticks and then went to bed. The next morning we ate the berries, and then took our tent down, and then we started off. We thought we were never going to find our campsite. We sat down and took a break. Suddenly we saw smoke in the air. We went towards it. A tent was there.
We went to it and knocked on the tent. An old man came out. We asked if he could help us find our campsite. He said that we should rest and spend the night. We said yes we will stay here. We then went to bed. The next morning we ate and about three hours later we found our campsite.
The Woods
by Heather J
"Hi, my name is Laura and I would like to tell you about what happened to me. This is how I will tell you about it, I'll tell you it in a story.
I had my friends over. John, Kim and I were talking about what we were going to do. John said, "Why don't we go for a walk in the woods?" So I went down stairs and asked my mom if we could go for a walk in the woods. She said, "All right, just be back before dinner."
So we started out for our adventure. We decided to bring our tent and matches but we forgot to bring our flashlight. We left the house and started down the road to the woods. When we got to the woods we had to walk on this big huge pipe that water used to run through. Then we got to the woods. Then we just walked a round a lot looking at the different kinds of plants.
Then it got really dark. We looked for a flashlight and we just remembered that we forgot it. So we had to spend the night there because we couldn't see our way back. So we pitched the tent and built a fire and told ghost stories. Then when we went to sleep. We couldn't sleep because we thought that bears were going to eat us. In the morning we were walking and I remembered where I was so I started to run and run. They said slow down what's wrong. I said I know where I am so we all kept on running and running until we were on the pipe again.
When we were walking on the pipe I thought of what my mom was thinking so then I started to run and run. When we got on the road I ran home as fast as I could and when I got into the house my mom just said, "Hi."
I said, "You were not worried about us or where we were?"
She said, "No, I thought you guys were just staying out in your tent in the woods."
I said, "Oh Mom."
Trapped In An Inferno

Mr. Goodyear was on his way to work when he heard on the radio that there was a blackout in Nashua. He was about to turn around but then he thought that John his son could take care of himself.
John was doing his homework when the blackout happened. He went downstairs and lit some candles. He also got a flashlight. Then he went back to doing his homework. John didn't know it but the house and the candle caught on to the curtains and a fire was starting to spread. The Goodyears' neighbor called Mr. Goodyear on his car phone and told him that his house was on fire. Mr. Goodyear spun around and headed for home.
When Mr. Goodyear got home he rushed into the house but the deadly smoke made it so he couldn't see. He crawled up to John's room but there were to many flames. He remembered the fire extinguisher and when he got into John's room he couldn't find him. Mr. Goodyear was about to give up when he heard John cry Daddy. Mr. Goodyear grabbed John and brought him out to safety.
I'll Never Forget
by Nicole P
The first week of summer my family and I went on a mini vacation on our houseboat. We were sailing up the coast of South Carolina. My husband Chris and my brother-in-law John were taking turns steering the boat. The other family members on the boat were my daughters Victoria who was seventeen and Christine who was nine, my son Nick who was fifteen, and me. The waves were really big the second day and they kept pushing the boat further and further into the ocean.
Then it was at a point where there weren't any land, boats, or anything else in sight. That night it started to rain but stopped the next morning and the sky was really dark. That afternoon there was a huge storm and we lost all radar control. The waves were huge and the water started to fill the boat.
We started to gather food, clothes, and things of importance. It was a good thing we had a wooden dingy and a raft, as each was very small. The dingy was filled with water but it was small enough to tip the water out. We put our personal belongings in it and we climbed in the raft bringing the food with us. It could barely fit us, and we left the boat.
The food only lasted us a week and a half. We went four days with out food. Then John caught a small fish, we ate it that night.
8 Days Later--
We didn't have any food since the small fish. We couldn't drink the sea water because we would get sick. We had to wait for it to rain to drink and a fish of some sort to come along to eat.
The next day Chris and John were looking on the map. They estimated where they thought we were. The map showed a ship of some sort northeast of us, so that is where we headed.
Victoria had been trying to catch a fish all day. Finally she did. It was dinner and everyone was eating except Christine. She was sick and as pale as a ghost. They took Christine's food and put it in a plastic baggy. The next day they went fishing with it. They caught a small fish.
I looked behind us. The dingy about twenty feet away. Chris jumped out nandstarted swimming to it. Then I spotted sharks swimming towards him. I grabbed the last piece of food and started waving it under the water. The sharks came over. I was so scared I screamed and dropped the fish and everyone came over. The shark bit the side of the raft and ate the fish. Water started to flow in. We had to gather everybody and everything and get in the dingy.
After a month since we left the boat we spotted our hope of living. It was a ship about four hundred yards away from us. John had a match so he set a stick from the dingy on fire and started waving it in the air and we all screamed for help. Then the ship left our sight. I was so depressed that I started to cry. I prayed to God asking him to make a miracle. Then we saw the ship again it came and picked us up.
Lost in the Forest
by Chris P
Ben and John were riding their bikes to Lamb Chop Forest. They were going to go exploring but they had to be careful not getting lost because it is one of the biggest forests in the U.S. "Come on John hurry up I have to be home before supper." "Where is this forest any way?"
"At the end of the road."
They kept on riding until they got to the end of the road. "When do you think we will find Ben?"
As they walked through the forest they forget to keep track of time. They kept on walking through the forest. All of a sudden Ben realized that it was later than they wanted to stay out. "John we have to go home now!"
"Why what time is it?"
"It's 8:00! Quick! Lets go!"
"But where are we? Its too dark to find our way back home!"
As the sun lowered and it got darker, Ben and John walked through the forest. "Ben, did you hear that? "Something was moving in the bushes. "Run!"
Ben and John ran for about thirty minutes which seemed like hours. "Ben can we rest a little bit?" John and Ben sat under a tree and slowly drifted asleep. The next morning, they woke up. They didn't say much because their throats were crusty from not having anything to drink for so long. As they walked they wondered if they'd make it out of the woods. "Ben did you hear that a bush was rattling?"
All of a sudden a wolf jumped out. "Run!" said Ben. They ran until they heard voices. They saw a clearing up ahead but the wolf was still chasing them. They screamed for help. A man heard them and ran in the house and came back out with a rifle. When they got to the man the wolf was still chasing them. The man aimed and fired . He missed but it scared it away. After he took them home.
The Deadly Gold Rush
by Ryan Q
My name is Ryan Quirion and I am going to tell you my story. It was 1845 and my friend Troy Neel and I where heading toward California for gold. We are going to buy some land and mine gold. So we are on our way to California.
We were taking a rest and I sat down and I got bit by a snake. I was poisoned for the rest of the day. We got on our way and we hit a big rock. Our wagon wheel broke. The next town was 30 miles from here so we just had to ride with a broken wheel. We got to the next town and I had a doctor suck the poison out. We got more food and a new wheel.
We were heading towards the desert and hit a storm. It destroyed our wagon and we lost all our food. We walked for days and days; we were thirsty. We were in luck because we found some land and we were in California. We bought some land and mined for gold. We found a whole lot of it and we struck it rich.
Shark Attack
by Ben R
One day Kevin and Joe, two oceanographers, were assigned to go to the Atlantic Ocean to study sharks. While they were in the middle of the ocean they saw a shark swimming by. They stopped but couldn't scare it away. The shark finally left, and they tried to start the engine but it wouldn't start. Joe was starting to panic. Kevin told Joe to go look for gas. Kevin was a mechanic and knew the boat needed oil.
Joe came back up and said there was no gas. Joe turned around and saw a shark attacking the boat and then said to Kevin, "Get the spear gun and shoot the shark." Kevin got the gun and killed the shark. Then they went home and told their boss what happened. He said good job, how about a trip to the Caribbean Sea to study tropical fish. They went home and packed their bags and soon they were off to study tropical fish.
Help!

It was a nice bright morning of 1997, when the phone rang. Neel went to go get it. It was a scientist who wanted Neel and his friends to explore an unknown island.
"Why us?" asked Neel.
"I felt like it, and besides you guys are scientists also," replied the strange scientist.
"Well," Neel thought about it," I guess it would be neat, but when do we leave?"
"In a month, on September 21 at 3:00 P.M. at Logan International Airport, you got it?"
"Yep," Neel said. Then he hung up. After thinking about it for a while, he called his friends and told them about their new adventure.
"Sounds like fun" said Kevin.
"Great!" yelled Jason.
"I hope it's not dangerous, "Michael replied," but I guess so."
The month went by quickly for Neel and his friends. But they were pretty sure they were ready. Finally the day came. Neel, Jason, Kevin, and Michael were waiting at the airport when a limo pulled up to them. Then an old, old man (probably about ninety) came out. Soon they found out that he was the scientist. They talked for a while then he said, "Let's get going. We don't want to be late." Soon they were 10,000 feet in the air and going over the Pacific Ocean. When they got there, they had to land in the water because there weren't any runways on the unknown island. When they got on the island the scientist said he would be back in two months, to pick them up, and then he left. Afterwards they started to explore. It was quite fun seeing plants that people had never seen before. For some strange reason they didn't see any animals. It was getting dark, so they found an area and started to unpack their food and tents. They found out one of the capsules of food was left at home. So they only had 2 capsules of food and each one had 30 meals. So they said they would use the food very carefully. Almost a month had gone by but still there were no signs of life and they managed to use only one capsule. Then one night their other capsule disappeared, and they were already getting weak before the capsule even did! They could barely walk. Ten days afterward they started to see animals. Jason got bit by an unbelievably large snake with large beady eyes and fangs like those of a vampire's. As soon as Jason got bit he fell to the ground. They had no clue what to do because they had never seen this animal in their lives, but Kevin pulled out a defense gun from his pocket and shot the snake down. Then they tied a handkerchief around his thigh so the venom wouldn't spread. They put him in his tent, and gave him some medicine, and that was all they could do.
He was still unconscious. Then a lizard similar to a Komodo Dragon jumped out and raked across Michael's back. He screamed, "Nooooooo!" Then he to was on the ground. Soon after the same kind of reptiles surrounded Kevin and Neel. They were usually brave, but now they were very scared. The things were coming closer and suddenly Neel and Kevin dropped to the ground. While they were knocked out, natives of the island scared the things away and nursed Neel, Kevin, Michael, and Jason back to health. Then afterwards they learned some of the natives' culture and language. The natives showed them medicines found in plants and the animals of the island. Then, at the end of the second month they said good-bye and then went home.
Swiss Alps
by Charles S
Scene 1
"Yes! Swiss Alps here I come!" said Shawn after we decided to go to the Swiss Alps for mountain climbing.
"Yo! Shawn, before we go mountain climbing don't you think that we need climbing equipment?" said Jamie.
"Yeah, so let's go get some," said Dirk.
"Last one to the car is a rotten egg," said Jason.
"Well I'm not going to be the last one there," said Charles.
"Well you aren't going to be first, Charles," said Eddie.
Scene 2
"Hey look at the cool goggles!" said Dirk.
"Look at the ski's," said Jason.
"I'll get the ones with the black and white stripes," said Charles.
"Big deal I'm getting the ones with the Diesel design on tthem, "saidDirk.
"Oh yeah ! Well I' m getting the ones with the broken hearts on it," said Shawn.
"Oh be quite and lets get to the airport," said Jason, a little mad for having to wait so long.
"So I said let's go and we all left the store without any skis."
Scene 3 O'Hare airport Chicago
We made it just on time five minutes until our plane left. By the time we made it to the gate we had only 2 minutes left before we left to the Swiss alps.
Scene 4 Log Cabin Airport Swiss alps.
Finally we're there. "Hurry let's go see our cabin, "I said.
"Forget the cabin let's start climbing the mountain," said Shawn.
"The store will let us borrow some spiked boots, goggles and some canteens for water because you can loose your breath very fast at those high heights," I replied.
Scene 5 Mt. Matillda.
We started to climb the mountain but at first it was hard but soon it got easy. All of a sudden we heard a noise. It sounded like someone out of breath. It was Dirk out of breath because by now we were half way up the mountain. I threw a canteen down to him. He missed it, and it fell and hit Jamie. He slipped and fell and since Jamie, Eddie, and, Jason were all connected to each other, they all fell and got caught on a ledge.
When we saw this we thought they were going to die but they didn't. They just sat there hanging on a ledge so we had to go out on the ledge to get them. Shawn led the way while Dirk and I followed behind him. Shawn took Jamie by the shoulders and hoisted him back up on to the mountain peak. While Shawn helped Jamie up Dirk and I helped Jason and Eddie up. As we all were together again we all took off down the mountain never to go mountain climbing again. We went back to our cabin long enough to go to the bathroom and left for the next plane to Chicago.
Scene 6 Back on the plane.
Jamie, Eddie, and Jason all were thanking Shawn, Dirk, and I for saving their lives and we said if it was us you would have done the same thing. We talked so long the plane had already landed and everybody was gone so we walked back to our car and went home. When we got home we all went Christmas shopping and when Christmas came around we had a very good one at that.
Lost in the Woods
by Alice S
One beautiful day, a perfect day for a camping trip, Katlin's parents drove us to the Easter Seals camp. The camp had a lake and woods around it . The counselor asked Kaitlin and me to go get wood for the campfire. We went into the pine grove to get some nice dry wood. We both were piling up wood when we heard a loud growling! It was a bear! We ran! Katlin ran faster than me. Soon I was alone. I was lost! It started to get dark. But it was not night time. Then I heard some thunder. Soon it began to rain. I had to keep on running to find Katlin, she was nowhere in sight. I also needed to find shelter. I stopped running when I came to the cliff. I almost fell over. It was a long way down! But the counselor came running to save me. Then we had to find Kaitlin so we could go back to our campsite. Then we found Katlin. She was hurt. She had fallen into a hole. She was crying. We asked her if she could walk, Katlin said no. We had to help her get back to the campsite. The counselor and I brought her back to the campsite, then went back to get wood. When we were getting wood, I tripped on a rock and scraped the back of my foot. The counselor had to cover the scrap and get me back to the campsite. We built a campfire and we roasted marshmallows. Then it was time for bed. In the morning we wrote letters. I wrote my parents a letter. I wrote, Dear Mom, Dad, Lydia and Emily, I got hurt from tripping on a rock. Katlin got hurt from bringing the wood to the campsite. I had to bring a counselor to Katlin. She didn't mind being alone. After we brought her to the campsite, I had to get the marshmallows. Then we went to bed. In the morning we did arts and crafts. Today you are going to bring me and Katlin home. Love Alice Marie Stawasz xoxoxoxoxoxo and Katlin.
Danger on Land
by Jeremy U
The year is 1497 a few years after Columbus's discovery . My name is Jessy Mcloud . My family and I live together in a small cottage in Spain. My two best friends are Daniel Johnson and Benjamin Drake. Our towns are getting crowded. Some people have decided to try to find new land. Two of those people were my parents. Well, it wasn't all bad. At least my friends were coming too.
It took two weeks for building the ship. While the men built the ship the women and children got the food, clothing, and other supplies. Finally on November 23 we left Spain. It was really boring while we were on the ship. We were never allowed on deck because they were afraid someone might fall over board. During the night the captain stayed awake steering the boat while we slept.
The next morning when I woke up every one was still asleep. Instead of going back to sleep I went up on deck. When I got up there I immediately saw land. I looked around for the captain. He was nowhere to be seen. Then I looked toward the steering wheel and there was the captain sleeping. I ran over to him and woke him up. He woke up in a rage. "Jessy what are you doing up here!!!" Then he saw the island. It looked like it was covered with forests . Then the captain yelled, "Land Ho!"
When we finally made it to land the captain split us up in to groups . One group took apart the ship and built houses, another group got food. I had look for food.
Instead of waiting for the group Ben, Dan, and I ran off in to the woods. We kept running deeper and deeper in to the woods. Then we found a big pile of dead meat. We carried as much as we could. Instead of going back to the ship we went even further in to the woods. All of a sudden there was a loud rustling noise coming from the bush. A huge bear jumped out of the bush. We turned around and ran as fast as we could . I could feel the bear breathing down my neck. There was no way to get away. Then I got an idea. I told everyone to run to the leftover meat. When we made it to the meat the bear stopped and started eating while we safely made it back to the ship.
