Canopic Jar
A canopic jar is a container where the heart, lungs, stomach, and intestines of an Egyptian pharaoh’s mummy is stored. Each organ has their own jar. In the Middle Kingdom, all of the jars’ covers were shaped like the head of a man. In the New Kingdom, however, the covers were shaped like the sons of Horus. These were the baboon, jackal, falcon, and man. While in the jar, the organ is preserved with natron - a salt - and resin. My reason for picking the canopic jar as an artifact is because I find them pretty interesting. Plus, I knew I had the right materials to make one. And as I read up on them, I learned more about them. It seemed like a cool project, and it was.
